September 23, 2026

  • added: A page for the Belgian passport photo size, 35 by 45 mm, read from the Fotomatrix published by the Foreign Affairs and Interior ministries.
  • changed: Advertising stays off, and is now a single switch in the site config rather than something an environment variable could turn on by accident.
  • fixed: The quality slider is now easy to grab on a phone. Its drag area was only three pixels tall, so a tap just above or below the line did nothing.
  • changed: A page that does not exist now offers every tool on the site, instead of pointing you at a sitemap file.
  • changed: A new logo, and the same one everywhere: the browser tab, the home screen icon, the header, the footer and every share card.
  • changed: Every tool page now frames the editor the way the home page does, and names the mode it opens in above the photo.
  • changed: On a phone, Download and Start over now stay in view at the bottom of the editor while you work through the settings above them.

  • fixed: The editor now dims the preview and pauses the download button while a new size is being prepared, so the figures under the photo always describe the photo above them.
  • changed: The navigation marks the page you are on, and the editor has one Start over button instead of two controls that did the same thing.

  • changed: A refreshed header and footer bring mobile navigation and larger theme controls with arrow-key selection.
  • changed: A new colour scheme: lime accents in dark mode and a coordinated green light theme, still following your system theme preference.
  • added: A Polish passport photo page. Poland publishes a pixel minimum of 768 by 1004 and, in the same sentence, asks for the proportions of 35 by 45 mm, which that minimum is not. The page opens the tool at the smallest size that satisfies both.
  • added: A Dutch passport photo page. The Netherlands publishes a minimum resolution as well as a size, so its pixel figure is the authority's own rather than our conversion, and every document page now says which it is showing you.
  • added: A Spanish passport photo page, read in Real Decreto 896/2003. Spain is the one country here that is not 35 by 45 mm: it asks for 32 by 26, so a photo made for France or Italy is the wrong size and shape.
  • added: An Italian passport photo page, read at the Polizia di Stato. Italy is the same 35 by 45 mm as France and requires the white background France forbids, so both pages now warn about the other.
  • added: A French passport photo page, read in the arretes on Legifrance. France is the one country here that forbids a white background, so a photo made to the American or Indian norm is exactly the one it rejects.
  • added: A German passport photo page, read in the Passport Act and the Passport Regulation themselves. The 45 by 35 mm print is only accepted at a mission abroad: in Germany the passport office photographs you, and the page leads with that.
  • added: A Facebook cover photo page, read at Facebook's own help centre. Facebook publishes 851 by 315 and 100 KB as what loads fastest rather than as a limit, so the page says that rather than calling either a maximum.
  • added: An Australian passport photo page, read at the Passport Office's own guidelines. Australia publishes a range rather than one size, so the page states the range and the tool opens at the smallest print it accepts.
  • added: Three new converter pages with AVIF as the destination: JPG, PNG and WebP to AVIF, each saying what the format actually costs and saves rather than assuming it wins.
  • added: You can now save as AVIF. No browser can write the format on its own, so picking it fetches an encoder once per visit, and nothing is fetched unless you pick it.

  • added: X header and Instagram post sizes, read at each platform's own help page, with Instagram's supported height range quoted as the range it actually is.
  • added: US passport photos, at 2 by 2 inches, with both the size and the 54 KB file size floor read at the State Department's own pages.
  • added: Each file size page now shows what actually comes out at that target, measured on five real photographs rather than estimated.
  • fixed: When a file size target cannot be reached at the current width, the tool now offers a narrower one in a single press instead of just saying it is still too big.
  • added: Social image sizes at /social/, for YouTube, Pinterest and LinkedIn. Each size links to the platform's own help page and shows the date it was read.
  • added: Document photo sizes at /documents/, for the UK, India and Canada. Each size is read at the issuing authority's own page, which is linked and dated.
  • added: The meter now warns when a file is too SMALL for a stated minimum, which the UK passport service sets at 50KB.
  • added: HEIC photos from an iPhone now open, and there is a page for converting them at /heic-to-jpg/. The decoder is fetched only when you open one.
  • added: Undo and redo in the editor, with Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z. A whole slider drag undoes in one press.
  • added: A bulk image resizer at /bulk-image-resizer/: resize a whole folder at once and take the finished set away as one zip.
  • added: Crop mode and a /crop-image/ page: drag a frame over the photo to keep the part you want, locked to a square or 16:9 if you need it.
  • fixed: The editor keeps one height on a desktop, so switching between pixels, percent, file size, rotate and convert no longer moves the page.
  • added: Type an exact target in kilobytes, for a limit the preset buttons do not carry.
  • added: Quick 25, 50 and 75 percent buttons next to the scale slider.
  • added: Six pages for a specific format pair, including AVIF to JPG for files that other software will not open.
  • fixed: The save format row no longer offers AVIF, which the browser cannot write yet and which failed at the download step.
  • added: Four pages for exact pixel sizes: 1080x1080, 1920x1080, 1200x630 and 512x512.
  • changed: Asking for an exact width and height now fills the box and crops the overflow from the centre, instead of stretching the photo to fit.
  • added: Convert a photo between JPEG, PNG and WebP, with a note on what each format is for.
  • added: Rotate a photo in quarter turns, or mirror it across or down.
  • added: Try the tool with a sample photo, without adding one of your own.
  • added: Compress an image to a target file size, or by quality with the dimensions left alone.
