Why is my 140 x 60 signature under 10 KB?
A signature is mostly blank paper, and blank paper costs almost nothing to store. A 140 x 60 box holds only 8,400 pixels, so even the highest JPEG quality has little to spend.
We measured it. Two test signatures, a clean scan and a phone photo on shaded paper, went through this page's own editor at four box sizes.

At 140 x 60 neither reached 10 KB, even at full quality. At 280 x 120, the same 7:3 shape doubled, both could land between 10 and 20 KB.
IBPS calls 140 x 60 preferred, and says the file should be between 10 and 20 KB. So when the file comes out too small, keep the shape and enlarge the box. The meter above says when full quality is not enough.
The test signatures were drawn for the measurement, not signed by a person. Treat the figures as a guide: a heavier pen or a busier paper texture makes a larger file.
How do you photograph or scan a signature?
Sign with a black pen on plain white paper. IBPS asks for exactly that, and dark ink on white keeps its edges best when the file is compressed.
On a scanner, IBPS asks for at least 200 DPI. On a phone, photograph the page flat in daylight, with no shadow from the phone across it.
Then crop close to the ink. Open the crop tool in the editor, drag the frame to the edges of the signature, and return to Pixels; the crop stays applied. Empty margins make the signature tiny inside the box.
Sign in your normal running hand. IBPS does not accept a signature in capital letters, and it disqualifies an applicant whose upload does not match the signature made at the exam.
What size does SSC ask for?
SSC's CGL and CHSL 2026 notices each give two: about 6.0 x 2.0 cm in paragraph 9.6 and about 4.0 x 2.0 cm in the application annexure. Both say JPEG, 10 to 20 KB, and no pixels.
The SSC page puts both notices side by side, gives each size in pixels with the file sizes we measured, and explains why SSC takes no photo file at all.

Common questions
Can I sign in blue ink?
Not for IBPS, which asks for a black pen on white paper. SSC's CGL 2026 notice does not name a colour. Black is the safe choice for both, and it keeps more contrast after compression.
Why was my signature rejected as too small?
Either the file is under the form's minimum, often 10 KB, or the signature is tiny inside its box. Crop close to the ink so it fills the frame, then enlarge the box until the file reaches the minimum.
Can I type my signature or use a signature font?
No. The notices ask for your own signature, and IBPS compares the upload with the one you sign at the exam. A mismatch disqualifies the application.
What is 4 x 2 cm in pixels?
It depends on the resolution. At 200 DPI it is 315 x 157 pixels, and at 300 DPI it is 472 x 236. When the form states a pixel size, use that instead.
