CPNS photo size for the SSCASN form

Is the pas foto limit 200 KB or 500 KB?
500 KB in both 2024 guides. The 200 KB that many guides give for the pas foto is the limit BKN's form prints beside the KTP scan, at the account step.

Both screenshots are examples. The list of documents is typed in by each agency's admin, so read the row on your own form. If it shows another limit, that one counts.
A file outside the range is refused with one message: the file must have the format, minimum size and maximum size the rules state. It does not say which of the three failed.
What size is the CPNS photo in cm or pixels?
BKN's guide states none: no centimetres, no pixels, no shape. 3 x 4 and 4 x 6 cm are the pas foto sizes Indonesian studios print, and guides borrow them. The form's stated checks are the format and the file size.
The minimum is what decides the pixels. We sized one test portrait at both pas foto sizes, at JPEG quality 82. At the usual 300 DPI both files landed under 80 KB.

So this tool makes the pas foto at 600 DPI: 945 x 1417 pixels for 4 x 6 cm, or 709 x 945 for 3 x 4 cm.
Both boxes are our choice, not BKN's. The file records 600 DPI, so it prints at the centimetres named.
If your file still comes out under 80 KB, the tool raises the JPEG quality until it clears the minimum, and the meter says so. It also holds the file at 500,000 bytes or less.
How do I get the red background?
The form's row asks for a formal, recent pas foto on a red background. The simplest way is a photo taken in front of a plain red backdrop, which is what a studio gives you.
If your photo has another background, the tool's Remove background control cuts you out on your own device and fills a colour you pick. Check the edge around your hair before you upload it.
What does BKN not say?
The guide gives no size, no shape, no DPI, no head size and no dress rule for the pas foto. An agency's own announcement can add rules, such as clothing. Read it before you upload.

Common questions
What is the maximum size of the CPNS pas foto?
500 KB, as a jpg file, in both of BKN's 2024 registration guides. The row reads: a formal, recent pas foto on a red background, maximum size 500 KB. The tool keeps the file at 500,000 bytes or less.
Is there a minimum file size?
Yes. The CPNS guide's form says every file must be at least 80 KB. The PPPK Teknis guide's form says 50 KB. A small pas foto can fall under either, so the tool raises the quality until the file passes 80 KB.
Is the CPNS photo 3x4 or 4x6?
BKN's guide does not say. It names no size in centimetres or pixels. This tool offers both, 4 x 6 cm first, each at 600 DPI so the file clears the 80 KB minimum. Follow your agency's announcement if it names one.
Do I upload the swafoto?
No. The guide shows the swafoto taken with your camera inside the form, with buttons to take it, retake it and save it. So there is no swafoto file to prepare or resize, only the pas foto and the KTP scan.
What size should the KTP scan be?
A jpg or jpeg of up to 200 KB at the account step. Choose KTP scan above and the tool compresses your scan to 200,000 bytes or less, keeping its shape. Check that the text is still readable.
