How does the platform state its sizes?
Half of Discord's images are locked behind Nitro or a Boost level, and Discord documents them on six different help pages.
Each row below names its source and the date it was read, and says what it needs, so you know before you design one whether you can upload it.

These numbers move, so check the date
A passport size has been the same for decades.
A platform's recommended image size can change in a product update nobody announces, which is why every size here shows the date somebody read it at the platform's own help page rather than presenting it as timeless.
If that date looks old and the size matters to you, the link beside it goes straight to the page it came from.
That is one click to confirm, against the alternative of trusting a number copied between blog posts since 2019.
Why your photo gets cropped
Platform sizes are shapes as much as sizes, and a photograph is rarely already that shape.
The box is filled and the overflow comes off the long edges evenly, because the alternative is stretching the picture and a stretched face is the one result nobody wants.
If the centre is not the part you want to keep, open the crop tool, drag the frame to the right region, and come back. The crop stays applied while you set the size.
What happens to your photo?
Your selected photo is processed in your browser, without an image upload to a server. The page may download code and codecs needed for editing.
Save your result before closing the tab; unsaved edits are kept in memory rather than in an online account.
Common questions
Which Discord images need Nitro or a Boost?
A profile banner and an animated profile picture need Nitro. A server needs Boost Level 1 for an invite background and an animated icon, Level 2 for a banner and Level 3 for an animated banner.
Emoji and five stickers need nothing; more slots come with each level.
What size is a Discord invite background?
Discord requires 1920 by 1080, as a JPG or PNG. It cannot be animated.
The invite itself is a tall pop-up in the middle of the screen, so keep anything that matters to the left and right of centre, and leave out logos and text.
Is a Discord profile banner 680 by 240 or 600 by 240?
Discord's Custom Profiles article, edited in March 2026, says at least 680 by 240. Its older Per-Server Profiles article still says 600 by 240.
680 by 240 meets both, so that is what Profile banner makes.
What is the difference between a Discord emoji and a sticker?
An emoji sits inline in a message and Discord recommends 128 by 128, under 256 KB. A sticker is sent on its own, must be exactly 320 by 320 and under 512 KB, and is a PNG or animated PNG.
