A profile picture is 320 by 320, a group cover 1640 by 856 and a link image 1200 by 630. Choose a slot below and the photo is cropped to it in your browser.
Every size, and where it comes from
One line per image, each read at the platform's own help page on the date shown. A row with a link has its own page with the full rules.
"Our size" marks a box this tool chose because the platform states only a shape or a minimum.

How does the platform state its sizes?
Facebook spreads its sizes across four places: its help centre, its business help, the ads guide and the developer docs for shared links.
The post and story figures are from Meta's ads guide, because Facebook's help centre states none for an ordinary post or story. Ads run in the same feed and between the same stories, so the shape carries over.

These numbers move, so check the date
A passport size has been the same for decades.
A platform's recommended image size can change in a product update nobody announces, which is why every size here shows the date somebody read it at the platform's own help page rather than presenting it as timeless.
If that date looks old and the size matters to you, the link beside it goes straight to the page it came from.
That is one click to confirm, against the alternative of trusting a number copied between blog posts since 2019.
Why your photo gets cropped
Platform sizes are shapes as much as sizes, and a photograph is rarely already that shape.
The box is filled and the overflow comes off the long edges evenly, because the alternative is stretching the picture and a stretched face is the one result nobody wants.
If the centre is not the part you want to keep, open the crop tool, drag the frame to the right region, and come back. The crop stays applied while you set the size.
What happens to your photo?
Your selected photo is processed in your browser, without an image upload to a server. The page may download code and codecs needed for editing.
Save your result before closing the tab; unsaved edits are kept in memory rather than in an online account.
Common questions
What size is a Facebook story?
Meta's ads guide gives 1440 by 2560 pixels for Facebook Stories, a 9:16 shape, as a JPG or PNG up to 30 MB. Most guides say 1080 by 1920, which is Meta's figure for Instagram Stories.
Both are 9:16, so either fills the screen. Facebook's help centre states no size for an ordinary story.
What size is a Facebook event cover photo?
Facebook's help page for event cover photos gives no size, and no other Facebook page read for this one does. The 1920 by 1005 and 1200 by 628 in the guides have no Facebook source.
That page does say you cannot change a cover photo's size once it is on the event, so crop it before you upload.
What size is a Facebook ad image?
For the Facebook Feed, Meta's ads guide gives a 4:5 image at 1440 by 1800 pixels, up to 30 MB and at least 600 wide. That is the portrait post above.
For Stories it gives 1440 by 2560. Other placements have their own figures in the ads guide, so check the one your ad runs in.
Is a personal profile cover the same size as a Page cover?
Facebook states 851 by 315 only for a Page cover photo, as the size that loads fastest. For a personal profile, its help says only that the cover image has to be at least 720 pixels wide.
An 851 by 315 cover is wider than that, so the same file works for both.
