Resize an image to 4 x 6 inches
4 x 6 inches is 1200 x 1800 pixels at 300 DPI. The tool makes that and saves 300 DPI in the file, so it prints at size. The shape is 2 by 3: a 2 by 3 camera photo fits whole, and a 3 by 4 phone photo loses 11 percent of its width.

What is the 4 x 6 in print used for?
4 x 6 is the standard snapshot print and a common photo paper size for home printers. Labs also call it 4R.
Outside the US the nearest print is 10 x 15 cm, slightly smaller and almost the same shape.
How many pixels is 4 x 6 in?
It depends on the DPI, the number of pixels printed per inch. The tool uses 300, the usual figure for a photo print, and saves it in the file. Change it beside the size fields.

What gets cropped, and why nothing is stretched
A photograph is almost never the shape you are asking for.
The image is scaled until it fills the box and the overflow is then taken off the long edges, evenly from both sides.
The alternative is stretching, which leaves faces and straight lines visibly wrong, so this tool never does it.
The fields show millimetres, centimetres or inches as well as pixels. Type a print size in any of them and the pixels follow at the DPI you chose.

Common questions
How many pixels is a 4 x 6 photo?
1200 x 1800 at 300 DPI, the usual figure for a photo print. At 150 DPI it is 600 x 900, and at 600 DPI 2400 x 3600.
A 3024 x 4032 phone photo has more than enough pixels, so it prints sharp at 300.
How much of my photo is cut off?
It depends on its shape. A 3024 x 4032 phone photo is scaled to 1350 x 1800, and 75 pixels come off each side.
A 4000 x 6000 camera photo is already 2 by 3, so it is scaled to 1200 x 1800 and loses nothing.
My photo is landscape. Can I print it at 6 x 4?
Yes. The page opens portrait, 4 inches wide. Type 6 in the width and 4 in the height, and the tool makes 1800 x 1200 pixels instead, still at 300 DPI.
Otherwise a landscape photo is cropped to a portrait strip from its middle.
Is 4 x 6 inches the same as 10 x 15 cm?
Nearly. 4 x 6 inches is 10.16 x 15.24 cm, so a 10 x 15 cm print is a little smaller.
For the metric size, switch the fields to cm and type 10 and 15. The pixels follow at the same 300 DPI.
