A 4032 by 3024 phone photo is scaled to 1600 by 1200, then 150 pixels come off the top and bottom. A Full HD frame shrinks with no crop.
Why this size?
1600 by 900 is a widescreen frame for a slide, web banner or wallpaper that should not weigh as much as Full HD. It is five sixths of 1920 by 1080 on each side, so it holds 69 percent of the pixels.
That is 1.44 million pixels, exactly as many as a 1200 by 1200 square, in a wide shape instead of a square one.
Listing on eBay? 1600 by 900 is the Wide size on eBay listing photo size.

What gets cropped, and why nothing is stretched
A photograph is almost never the shape you are asking for.
The image is scaled until it fills the box and the overflow is then taken off the long edges, evenly from both sides.
The alternative is stretching, which leaves faces and straight lines visibly wrong, so this tool never does it.
If the crop takes something you wanted to keep, change the width or the height in the panel and the box changes with it.
Turning the lock back on makes both fields follow your photo's own proportions again, which gives you the whole frame at a smaller size instead.

What if the photo is smaller than the box?
It is scaled up to fill it, because a page that promises an exact size has to deliver one.
Enlarging cannot add detail that was never captured, so the result is softer than the original.
Starting from the largest copy you have is always worth the extra second it takes to find it.

Common questions
Will my photo be cropped?
A 4032 by 3024 phone photo is 4 by 3, taller than 16 by 9. It is scaled to 1600 by 1200, then 150 pixels come off the top and 150 off the bottom.
A 6000 by 4000 camera photo is scaled to 1600 by 1067 and loses 83 at the top and 84 at the bottom. A 3024 by 4032 portrait keeps only 42 percent of its height.
What happens to a 1920 by 1080 image?
Nothing is cropped. It is already 16 by 9, so it is scaled to five sixths of its width and height and keeps every edge.
A 1280 by 720 image is the same shape but smaller. It is enlarged 1.25 times to fill the frame, which softens it a little and adds no detail.
Can I keep the whole photo in the frame?
Yes. Open your photo, then pick White border in the Fill the box row. The whole photo is scaled to fit inside 1600 by 900 and white fills the rest.
A 4032 by 3024 photo becomes 1200 by 900, with a 200 pixel band on the left and right. A 3024 by 4032 portrait is only 675 wide, so white fills most of the frame.
How big is a 1600 by 900 file?
Our five test photos came out between 183 KB and 314 KB as JPEGs at the tool's default quality of 82. A sunflower against a blurred field was lightest, and a Times Square street scene crowded with signs was heaviest.
Each landed within 8 percent of the same photo at 1200 by 1200, which has exactly as many pixels.
Is 1600 by 900 the same as HD+ or 900p?
Yes. HD+ and 900p are two names for the same 1600 by 900 grid. 900p names it by its height, the way 1080p names 1920 by 1080.
This page makes that grid from any photo. It does not check what your screen or upload form expects, so match the size it asks for.
