Why this size?
Roblox's Creator Hub gives each image its own rule. A game icon should be square and at least 512 by 512, because Roblox scales it down to sizes like 150 by 150 and wants it sharp at all of them.
A pass icon runs the other way: it must not exceed 512 by 512. One 512 square meets both rules.
A thumbnail that is not 16:9 is stretched, not cropped. This page crops your photo to 1920 by 1080 first, so nothing is stretched.

These numbers move, so check the date
A passport size has been the same for decades.
A platform's recommended image size can change in a product update nobody announces, which is why every size here shows the date somebody read it at the platform's own help page rather than presenting it as timeless.
If that date looks old and the size matters to you, the link beside it goes straight to the page it came from.
That is one click to confirm, against the alternative of trusting a number copied between blog posts since 2019.
Why your photo gets cropped
Platform sizes are shapes as much as sizes, and a photograph is rarely already that shape.
The box is filled and the overflow comes off the long edges evenly, because the alternative is stretching the picture and a stretched face is the one result nobody wants.
If the centre is not the part you want to keep, open the crop tool, drag the frame to the right region, and come back. The crop stays applied while you set the size.
What happens to your photo?
Your selected photo is processed in your browser, without an image upload to a server. The page may download code and codecs needed for editing.
Save your result before closing the tab; unsaved edits are kept in memory rather than in an online account.

What size is a Roblox game icon?
Square and at least 512 by 512 pixels. Roblox's Creator Hub says to use a 512 by 512 template so the icon stays sharp across its site and app.
It also says icons are scaled down to sizes like 150 by 150, and to preview yours that small. Fine detail and small text will not survive it.
What size is a Roblox thumbnail?
16:9, ideally 1920 by 1080 pixels, as a .jpg, .gif, .png, .tga or .bmp. Roblox says to keep thumbnails under 3 MB.
An upload in another shape is stretched to 16:9 when it is shown. Thumbnail here crops instead: a 4032 by 3024 photo loses a quarter of its height and nothing is distorted.
What size is a Roblox game pass icon?
No larger than 512 by 512 pixels, as a .jpg, .png or .bmp. Roblox says the same of a developer product's image.
The icon is shown in a circle, so keep anything important away from the corners. The 150 by 150 in some charts is a size Roblox says icons are scaled down to, not an upload size.
What size is a Roblox badge?
Roblox says to use a 512 by 512 template. The upload trims and crops the image into a circular icon, so text or detail near the corners is cut off.
Badge here makes the 512 square. Put the subject in the middle before you download.
What size is the Roblox shirt and pants template?
585 by 559 pixels. Both of Roblox's template files measured exactly that when we downloaded them on 6 October 2026.
A classic shirt is a layout of body parts, not a picture, so a resized photo will not work as one. Roblox's help warns that an image even a pixel or two off the template size is refused.
A classic T-shirt is different: any square image, such as 512 by 512, shown on the front of the torso.
Is there a file size limit for Roblox images?
Roblox's Creator Hub states one, for thumbnails: keep them under 3 MB. It gives no file size for icons, pass icons or badges.
Thumbnail here stays well under it. Pure noise, the hardest picture to compress, saved at 1.1 MB, and a real photo at 444 KB. The 512 square of the same photo was 60 KB.
What size is a Roblox group icon?
Roblox does not say. Its help pages for creating and managing a community name the Emblem field and give no pixel size, so this page offers none.
Charts quote 256 by 256 or 420 by 420 with no Roblox source. A square image such as the 512 by 512 Game icon is the safe upload.
